COURSE INFORMATION:

Aim: To equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the social and economic benefits of tourism and to appreciate their own role in providing tourism visitor customer care.

Participant Profile: Course is suitable for those who require a formal qualification and skills to work in the tourism industry.

Duration: 4 days (normally 1 day per week) or equivalent contact delivery days in a classroom setting. Learners will be required to complete work outside of class time.

Credit Value: 15 Credits

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:

Some of the learning outcomes include to:

  1. Describe the social and economic role of tourism in Ireland
  2. Summarise the structures and profile of the Irish tourism and hospitality sectors
  3. Outline the principal markets for Irish tourism, and the different categories of tourist, their needs and expectations
  4. Outline the key features of Irish traditions, heritage and culture
  5. Explain what is meant by sustainable tourism
  6. Explain the role of the ¿Irish welcome¿ concept for visitors to Ireland
  7. Identify key elements of customer care and the impact of customer interactions on visitor perceptions
  8. List key components of the Irish tourism product
  9. Access visitor information from a range of sources
  10. List key attractions, leisure activities, and amenities in a local area, offering advice and recommendations where required.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Entry Requirement: Minimum of Level 3 certificate standard of education. Strong interest in or working in the hospitality/tourism industry. A strong level of spoken and written English required.
Assessment: Portfolio/Collection of Work 100% Learners will receive assignment briefs and guidelines on completing these assessments.
Tutor Profile: All tutors are highly qualified and experienced in the hospitality/tourism area.
Support: A range of accommodations and supports are available according to specific learner needs. One to one and email support available from tutors throughout the course.
Resources: Learners receive a comprehensive resource pack that can be used as a reference during and after the course.

Transfer/progression: Successful completion enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement at Level 4 & 5.
