Course Information:

Aim: To equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to compile a business plan to enable the learner to start their own business.
Participant Profile: Course is suitable for those who require a formal qualification and skills in starting their own business
Duration: 4 days in a classroom setting
Status: Minor component
Credit Value: 15 credits

Programme Outcomes:

There are many learning outcomes some of which will enable the learners to:

  1.  Explore the legal requirements and regulations pertaining to starting a variety of business structures
  2.  Analyse the personal, functional and business factors that contribute to business success
  3.  Research the relevant sources of business start-up information and support available to entrepreneurs
  4.  Examine the market for new product or service niches
  5.  Assess the potential strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the business
  6.  Explain the role and function of a realistic and coherent business plan
  7.  Examine the importance of complete and correct business documentation to include budgets, cash flow and financial statements
  8.  Apply for the legal, financial and government agency and other support required by the business
  9.  Conduct opportunity, feasibility and market research studies
  10.  Design a product or service to be provided by the business

Entry Requirement: Minimum Level 4 standard of education. A strong level of spoken and written English required.
Assessment: Project 100% Learners will receive guidelines on completing these assessments.
Tutor Profile: All tutors are highly qualified professionals.
Support: A range of accommodations and supports are available according to specific learner needs. One to one and email support available from tutors throughout the course.
Resources: Learners receive a comprehensive resource pack that can be used as a reference during and after the course.

Transfer/progression: Successful completion enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement at Level 5 & 6.
