COURSE INFORMATION

Aim: This workshop is based on “Guidance to Nurses and Midwives on Medication Management July 2007, An Bord Altranais” and Medication Management Templates, policies, procedures and guidelines “Standards for Practice in Residential Care” (NHI, HSE & Boots Care Service).

Participant Profile: Course is suitable for healthcare workers

Duration: 1 full day training in a classroom setting.

Credit Value: This course is An Bord Altranais (ABA) Approved

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:

Learners will cover the following:

  1. Safe Administration of medication and prescription writing
  2. Administration of PRN medication
  3. Double-checking of medication
  4. Transcription of prescriptions
  5. Covert administration of medication
  6. Refusal and withholding medication
  7. Self-administration of medication
  8. Pain management
  9. Ordering and storage
  10. Supply and possession of MDA 2 & 3 drugs
  11. Medication error and adverse drug event reporting

Entry Requirement: Strong interest or working in providing quality care in a healthcare setting. A strong level of spoken and written English required.
