Aim: The primary objective of the Safety Officer and Coordinator Course is to provide an entry level awareness course for those new to the coordination of health and safety. The programme will give participants an understanding of the key areas of occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation and guidance.
Participant Profile: The programme is designed for those who have recently been assigned coordination of health and safety as part of their existing role within the organisation, in particular HR officers/advisors, managers, supervisors or employees new to occupational health and safety.
Duration: 1 day in a classroom setting
- Health and safety legal system
- Management of health and safety at work
- Risk assessment & safety statement
- Accident prevention and management
- Role of the safety representative and competent person
- Common hazards including chemicals, manual handling, fire and D.S.E.
- Communication, consultation and the safety committee
- Role of the HSA
A strong level of spoken and written English required.
Each learner will receive a Barrow Training Certificate of attendance which is valid for 2 years.
