COURSE INFORMATION:

Aim: To enable learners to identify the key principles of developing, maintaining and enhancing the optimum environment in which young children will grow and learn.

Participant Profile: Course is suitable for those who require a formal qualification and skills to work in a childcare capacity.

Duration: Classroom – 4 days (usually 1 day per week) in a classroom setting. Learners will be required to complete work outside of class time.
Distance Learning – Commence at a time suits you and work at your own pace. Full tutor support available throughout.

Status: Elective Minor component

Credit Value: 15 Credits towards 120 credits in Early Childhood Care & Education Level 6 award 6M2007

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:

Some learning outcomes of the component include:

  1. Identify the range and nature of environmental influences that impact on the holistic development of children
  2. Consider the relevance of theoretical and conceptual perspectives in explaining the influence of the learning environment and children’s holistic development
  3. Evaluate the role of movement in children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development
  4. Prepare learning opportunities for children in order to develop independence and responsibility
  5. Provide opportunities for children to develop their logical thinking, concept formation and creativity
  6. Prepare and maintain an environment where children’s senses are developed and stimulated
  7. Select and apply appropriate routines that help children to feel valued, respected, empowered, cared for and included

OTHER INFORMATION:

Entry Requirement: Minimum of Level 5 certificate standard of education or extensive childcare experience. A strong level of spoken and written English required.
Assessment: Portfolio/Collection of Work 40% Skills Demonstration 60%
Learners will receive assignment briefs and guidelines on completing these assessments.
Tutor Profile: All tutors are highly qualified and experienced Childcare experts.
Support: A range of accommodations and supports are available according to specific learner needs. One to one and email support available from tutors throughout the course.
Resources: Learners receive a comprehensive resource pack that can be used as a reference during and after the course.

Transfer/progression: Successful completion enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement at Level 6.
