Course Information:

Aim: It will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence relevant to the theory and practice of child development and learning within early childhood care and education settings (ECCE)
Participant Profile: Course is suitable for those who require a formal qualification and skills to work in a childcare capacity.
Duration: Classroom – 4 days (usually 1 day per week) in a classroom setting. Learners will be required to complete work outside of class time.
Distance Learning – Commence at a time suits you and work at your own pace. Full tutor support available throughout.
Status: Mandatory Minor component
Credit Value: 15 Credits towards 120 credits in Early Childhood Care & Education Level 5 award 5M2009

Programme Outcomes:

Some learning outcomes of the component include:

  1.  Explain the holistic development of the child to include physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional, moral, spiritual, creative and cultural development
  2.  Describe a range of theories of child development and learning to include Piaget, Chomsky, Erikson, Bowlby, Ainsworth, Pavlov, Skinner
  3.  Describe the influence of family, social, cultural and environmental factors on child development and learning
  4.  Identify the benefits of play to the child’s holistic development and learning mindful of diversity, inclusion and equality of opportunity
  5.  Describe the contribution of the practitioner/parent/guardian to the development and learning of children in the home and in the ECCE setting
  6.  Apply theoretical principles of child development in the ECCE setting
  7.  Document children’s developmental progress against normative milestones of development
  8.  Carry out observations in support of programme planning for individual children and groups

OTHER INFORMATION:

Entry Requirement: Minimum of Level 4 certificate standard of education or childcare experience. A strong level of spoken and written English required.
Assessment: Assignments 30% Portfolio/Collection of Work 40% Examination 30%
Learners will receive assignment briefs and guidelines on completing these assessments.
Tutor Profile: All tutors are highly qualified and experienced Childcare experts.
Support: A range of accommodations and supports are available according to specific learner needs. One to one and email support available from tutors throughout the course.
Resources: Learners receive a comprehensive resource pack that can be used as a reference during and after the course.

Transfer/progression: Successful completion enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement at Level 5 or 6.

    Hi

    I am a SNA, I have fetac level 5 for that, I have been offered a job in a crèche and they say my fetac level 5 won’t cover me, I would like to do the fetac level 5 so I can work in a crèche online please. Can you give me information on this please.
