COURSE INFORMATION:

Aim: This course is ideal for those working in the care sector with service users who require catheters and ensures that learners understand what catheterisation is and the risks involved with it. Learners will gain an insight into types of catheters and why they are necessary as well as types of incontinence and how they are caused.

Duration: 1 full day training in a classroom setting.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:

Upon completion, learners will have an understanding of guidelines, clinical indications and rationale for the following skills:

  •  What is catheterisation?
  • The purpose of urinary catheterisation.
  • Causes and types of incontinence.
  • Risks involved with catheterisation.
  • Types of catheters.
  • Emptying and cleaning of catheters.
  • Infection prevention.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Entry Requirement: Strong interest or working in providing quality care in a healthcare setting. A strong level of spoken and written English required.

Support: A range of accommodations and supports are available according to specific learner needs. One to one support is available from tutors on the course.
Resources: Learners receive a comprehensive resource pack that can be used as a reference during and after the course.
